We see ourselves as a node, a gathering point to promote ideas and conversations between artists, technologists, activists, writers, intellectuals and the community at large. Located in the Colaba art district, we house an exhibition space, a curated bookshop, artist residencies/studios, a cafe, a film club and a platform for public art.

Volte is a radical shift from the traditional gallery model, where the exhibitions, events and audience intermingle into a dynamic and exciting program. While we promote all media of contemporary art, we are interested in advocating and exhibiting projects which blur the lines between the arts, sciences, spirituality and life itself.

Boshudhara Mukherjee

Painted Veil is the inaugural solo exhibition of works by artist Boshudhara Mukherjee. In her works the canvas is more than just a surface to paint on; it is the active participant in the process of creation and often dictates it. Boshudhara feels the need to free the canvas, to be able to manipulate and manoeuvre it. She allows it to occupy its own space by discarding its framework and letting it hang freely in space.

We offer a selection of delicious and seasonal foods including salads, sandwiches, cheeses, and sumptuous deserts. What better way to spend the day than sipping a coffee or enjoying a cupcake while seeing cutting edge art and browsing great books?

We are committed to providing you with the very best books on a wide variety of subjects including art, film, music and culture. Every month we invite a different artist, filmmaker, writer or collector to talk about their favourite books. These books will then be available for sale through our bookshop. Besides books we stock various journals, zines and publications that are rare and hard to find in the city.

We will shortly be launching artist residencies and studios in an offsite location an hour's drive away from Mumbai. Set amidst 16 acres of lush greenery, this space includes space for 10 artists to live and work at the same time. Two large warehouses are available for artists who want to create large scale works.

In order to engage and educate the audience, volte has programmed an extensive events calendar starting a critical dialogue on various issues relating to our contemporary life. The events programme will include film screenings, talks, workshops, gigs and performances.
