Untitled, 2007
Suhasani Kejriwal

At first glance, the colourful floral patterns in Suhasini Kejriwal’s work seem pleasant, simple renderings. The artist works with painstaking detail, using intricate patterns and painted lines that might even be called decorative. On a closer examination, however, one encounters several elements amidst the leaves and flowers that shock the viewer and disrupt the balance of the entire work of art.

Executed in mixed media on canvas or in painted and decorated fiberglass, the artist’s work is an interesting amalgamation of the straightforward and the quirky. Kejriwal’s work also shows how several disparate parts often come together to form an incoherent whole, and yet how meaning exists only in the juxtaposing of these elements.
